Longfields Elementary School

Thanks to a generous grant from CareFirst, we installed a productive hydroponics lab, and a rasied bed garden at Longfields Elementary (Prince George's County Public Schools). We work with students in their "Green Club" to facilitate afterschool programming.
10+ lbs
Fresh produce grown each month by students.
20+
Students engaged with educational programming each year.

Growing Systems

Hydroponics lab with our Grow Wall system, flood/drain system, and a potted fruiting plant shelf.

We renovated a unutilized courtyard into an outdoor classroom with a raised bed garden.

Programming

We facilitate bi-weekly afterschool programming with students in the "Green Club". We leverage our holistic garden curriculum to guide students through activities related to gardening, plant science, nutrition, food systems, food justice, sustainability, and food preparation.

Food Production

All produce that students harvest is taken home with them to their families, and anything leftover is distributed to school staff.

We're grateful to CareFirst for awarding us a multi-year grant to install this farm, design our curriculum, and facilitate engaging programming with students at LES!
